  • Exchange Rule Doing Strange Thing

Hello. We have a rule on our Exchange 2003 server that sends a copy of every message our CEO gets to another mailbox. This is for backup purposes in case CEO accidentally deletes anything using Blackberry or Outlook. CEO's assistant always monitors to see that both mailboxes are identical. She has both mailboxes opened in Outlook.

Problem is messages are appearing in the 2nd mailbox but NOT appearing in the CEO's mailbox when he's out of the office. When Service Desk was contacted and they opened up CEO's mailbox with on their Outlook, the missing messages began appearing.

Can anyone explain why this is happening? Any replies are greatly appreciated.

As a guess, it is a client side rule so it will only run when outlook is running
You could check the rule and make it server side if you can

      Slightly OT but:
Blackberries can be set to only delete on the handset.
Outlook can use the recover deleted items to recover deleted emails.
You can also set the mailbox DB to journal to another store somewhere, that way you get all sent/received (albeit for the entire DB).
      cheers
