  • Ex2003 POP3 protocol is in manual mode

    I have three questions:
    1. The POP3 protocol on the Exchange system manager is not starting automatically after reboot the machine, I checked the "Microsoft Exchange POP3" service and it's in automatic mode and it has been started after reboot (No problem to start it manually).
    What can be the problem?

    2. How can I setup the permissions on the M: drive MBX folder, so as administrator I would have an access rights to all the mailboxes on this folder?
Currently I am receiving an access denied error message.

    3. How can I stop any NDR's traffic from my server out? I mean is there is a way to stop sending non delivery report to the senders?

        You was very fast!

Your first question are not so simple to discuss because you must tell us more details....

By default, the Administrator does not have permission to open mailbox of
users. To have access in MBX folder see that link

        http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;262054

        1.
In Exchange System Manager, click the virtual server that you want to configure.

        2.
On the Action menu, click Properties.

        3.
Click the Messages tab, and then type the name of the account that you want non-delivery reports (NDRs) sent to in the Send copy of Non-Delivery report to box.

        4.
Click OK or Apply to save the setting.

Thanks for you fast answer, unfortunately your answers did not solve 2 of my issues:
About the first case: After rebooting the machine, the POP3 protocol in the system manager is disabled and I can start the POP3 manually, my question is what should I do in order to start the POP3 protocol automatically?

Second case: I follow the instructions in the article link that you sent and it's working, THANKS!!!

          Third case:

You did not understand my question.
I want to stop any NDR traffic from my server outside, I don't want to transfer all the NDR to some mail box on my server, I just want to stop any NDR activity outside the server.

          Thanks

POP3 service is disable? you must have that service in automatically mode! you must have sure that service does not have dependecies with another disable service.

            DISABLE NDR? Easy

From Exchange System Manager, Global Settings, Internet Message Format.
Double click on your right. Advanced tab. Uncheck Allow
            non-delivery reports.

              Thanks again! You are great!

              Regarding the POP3 issue:
The POP3 service is starting after rebooting, but the POP3 protocol in the system manager does not start automatically after rebooting.
Do you have any idea what is the problem?
