  • Delete mail older then X number of days

OK...just like the title says: Can you get Exchange 2003 to automatically delete any mail item (inbox, sent, deleted, etc) that is more than X number of days old? And do this on a constant basis.

Management is looking at establishing an email retention policy and want to know if we can set the Exchange box to automatically delete messages past a certain time frame.

    We have Exchange 2003 SP2.

    Thanks.

Sorry, you asked if it could be done, not how it's done.

Go to your recipient policy, right click it and select "change property pages", select "Mailbox Manager Settings" if it's not already checked, click OK, right click the recipient policy and select "properties", click the "Mailbox Manager Settings (Policy)" tab, set the options to fit your needs.

Might be worth checking if you have any legal requirements on email retention as well. Make sure your users are aware too!
              cheers

you then also need to ensure that the mailbox management routine is running on the storage groups..
