  • non created mail box

    Hi
have been having real problems with a 2000 server and exchange 2000.

I have in desperation Installed a clean server with a fresh install of 200 server, installed the service packs, done every update and then installed exchange 2000 with all the updates.

If I create a new user I get the expected window - create an exchange mail box. I tick the box and click to finish.

It tells me that a mail box has been created at:
    server: edwards-micros-mail/first adminastrative group/testpc
Mailbox store: First storage group/mailboxstore (testpc)
Yet if I look in exchange mananger under: mailbox store .. mailboxes The user mail box is not there. It appears not to have been created.

Has any one any ideas what is going on
    thanks
    Ian

    Re: non created mail box

Mailboxes don't show up until they have received an email, try sending an email to the email address you specified (or was created for the account) and then refresh the ESM.
    cheers

      Re: non created mail box

      Hi

thanks for that, another lesson learnt, however it didn't create the mailbox

I sent an email which I assume was received because it didn't bounce back.

I then opened my control panel (outlook 2007) and selected mail and then setup my own services. I put in the server name testpc.emdomain and the username ian.

I then checked the name and both became underlined which I always thought meant it was all verified.

I then opened outlook 2008 and saw listed the mailbox and personal folders.

I also see a send and receive button which when I select appears to send and receive with no errors.

I thought exchange didn't use a button but did it on it's own? Either way nothing is received or sent.

I typed in http://testpc/exchange and was asked for a username and password if I use administrator/ password the mail box is shown as OWA if I type in ian/password I get a 401 error unauthorised.

Any ideas? running on Vista ultimate, outlook 2007 connecting to server2000 and exchange 2000

      cheers

        Re: non created mail box

You don't need to use the send/receive button you are correct.

Did you refresh the ESM to see the mailbox and it still didn't show?

        Is there any AV/AS involved?

Just to confirm, you can login to the mailbox with Outlook now but no emails are sent/received. The sent items do clear the Outbox and arrive in sent items but aren't received by the recipient.

        Does message tracking show anything?
        cheers

          Hi Andy

No I canot log onto the user account Ian with either outlook 2007 or OWA

although I can log into the administrator account with OWA

I have no antivirus, antispam installed on this test system and the only firewall is in my dratek router.

Has the user account populated with an email address automatically?
            cheers

              Re: non created mail box

              Hi

I'm sure thats an excellant question

To be sure I created a new user fred in active directory and then checked proporties. As you clearly suspected it has all normal exchange tabs but has not automatically populated the email address tab with any email addresses which come to think of it isn't right.

Where do I go from here (apart from the darkened room)

              cheers

Wait for 20 mins just in case and, as this is a test, try bouncing the box as well. Does it generate?
If not then check the event logs.
                cheers

                  Hi

at he risk of showing my ignorance nee stupidity what do you mean by bouncing the box?

If you mean does the email bounce back then no it doesn't bounce back to the ending email address as undeliverable

                  thanks for all the help

                    Re: non created mail box

"bouncing the box" is another phrase for a re-boot.
