  • POP3 & RPC/Https on Exchange 2003.

    Hello,
I greatly appreciate if anyone can help me. Currently I'm running RPC/HTTPs on exchange 2003 perfectly. However the outlook 2003/2007 client are limited to configure more than one ms exchange server account on the client side. Now since I have more than 2 exchange servers rpc/https email addresses it is hard for me to check email. I do not want to use mail forwarding as well I do not want to use OWA to check email. I now thinking to configure POP3 feature but not sure how to do or possible to do so I can setup more than 3 email addresses via POP3 on the client side. Please advise if this is possible. FYI - I read on a microsoft website they recommend I must disable the SSL and disable the domain authentication first???? If that the case it seems I must let go my rpc/https connect??? If true then i do not want that. Please advise...I want to use both rpc/https + POP3 options on this server. Thank you in advance.

    Regards,

    Re: POP3 & RPC/Https on Exchange 2003.

If you enable POP3 two things will happen.
    1. All email on the acccount you are accessing with POP3 will have the email removed to be stored elsewhere.
    2. That email will then be stored in the Exchange server that you are currently accessing over RPC over HTTPS.

POP3 is a horrible protocol. By using it you put yourself outside of the Exchange server, no colloboration with others on that server.

What you have read about POP3 though is wrong. You do not have to change anything on the server to use POP3.

If you need to connect to two seperate Exhcange orgs then you could look at ExtraOutlook which will allow you to run two seperate Outlook profiles at the same time.

      Hi Sembee,
Thank you for your help. I will not let go the benefit of MS Exchange feature. Are you telling me that there are a way to work around MS outlook 2003/2007 client to able using two ms exchange profiles at the same time? If you can give me the link to that article that will be great. Thank you in advance.

I think I get what you are saying. you want to use Microsoft Exchange for one email address, and you want to ALSO use POP3 for a different account, is this correct ?
