  • Removing Exchange2000 from dc

    Hi,
although topic is quite easy, there are issues, which are uncertain to me.

Basic scenario is, old 2000 dc away, new 2008 to be new dc.

All went well, until we were supposed to adprep /forestprep.

Nogo, because we have Exchange installation, that is not in use. All services regardin exchange are diabled.

Now the question is, in single DC domain, can I just remove exc and continue the process, or do I have to install completely new DC into new domain, and then log all wks to that new domain?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Removing Exchange2000 from dc

You will need to completely remove Exchange.
That is add/remove programs to remove the product completely and then remove the Exchange org.

Due to the way that Exchange integrates in to the domain, you cannot really disable it and expect it to go away. It needs to be removed completely.

Thank you Sembee for your reply.

In your opinion, after I've removed Exchange complitely, is it OK to proceed that process, even if I already have tried to complete adprep/forestprep, wich was no success?

As long as all parts of Exchange have been removed then the prep should proceed correctly without any issues.

          Thank you very much.

I will try that, after I have taken full back up from all servers we have.

          Thanks again.

Make use of the system state backup of NTBACKUP, if you are not already doing so. That will backup th ekey system elements for you.
