  • hosting new mail server on existing mail server

    Dear Techies,

i have two mail servers in my organization. one is hosted in my location with exchange 2003. And the other is hosted in different location(ISP). Now i want to host the other mail server in my exchange 2003 environment.

Is there any way of merging mail database in exchange 2003? if not... what are the things i need to check while hosting.

any immediate help will be highly Appreciated

    cheers

Exchange databases are domain specific. Therefore you cannot easily pick up a database from one server in another forest and then mount it in a different forest.

    There is no merge option.

If you have access to the other server then you could use exmerge to extract the content to PST files, then move those files to the server that you want to retain. Create accounts and then import the content in to those mailboxes.

User's Outlook will need to be reconfigured manually to point to the new server.

Re: hosting new mail server on existing mail server

A single Exchange server can recieve mail for any domain that you own. Point the MX records for the domain at your Exchange server and then make the required changes in Exchange. Google helps...
