  • cannot find Exchange 2003 Virtual Directories

    Hello:

I am hoping someone can help me with this, I am trying to install exchange 2003 on the front end server windows 2003 sp2, it does not create the virtual exchange directories in IIS by default. The front end exchange is part of the domain, and I have enabled IIS, SMTP, NNTP and other .Net components.

    Thanks
    J.

Do you already have exchange installed elsewhere? What does the exchange installation log file show?
Can you explain a bit more about the environment as well?
    cheers

Re: cannot find Exchange 2003 Virtual Directories

I would say it is a bad install.
Remove Exchange using add/remove programs and try again.
If that fails, then remove IIS as well as Exchange and try again.
If that still fails, then remove Exchange and then wipe the machine.

I work on a simple basis that a new Exchange install should work straight out of the box. If it does not then the system has other problems and should be rebuilt.

Re: cannot find Exchange 2003 Virtual Directories

I have exchange installed on the BE windows server 2003 box. The front end and backend are in different domains seperated by a firewall. I did a little more research and noticed the virtual directories are being created on ESM under Protocols/HTTP but some how they are not replicating to IIS. I tried reinstalling exchange, and even rebuild the entire machine. Also I can't seem to start the MTA stacks service and the system attendant service.

This is the recent installation I did and here is the log.

[Setup run at 11:50:39 on 02/04/09]
        Component Name: Microsoft Search
        Version: 2.0
        Installation Status: Success
        Error Message: NA
        Component Name: Microsoft Exchange
        Version: 6.5
        Installation Status: Success
        Error Message: NA
Component Name: Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services
        Version: 6.5

Component Name: Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools
        Version: 6.5

        Thanks

open cmd prompt into the intepub\adminscripts dir and run

          cscript adsutil.vbs delete ds2mb

restart you SA to speed up replication.
