  • Receiving emails from myself

    Hello,

I was wondering if it's possible in Exchange 2003 to block sending emails from my own address that is not sent thru my server.

Some of my users are getting emails with spam from themselfs (FROM: [email protected] TO: [email protected]). As i do know that this is not legitimate mail and i can check in outlook that it's not send by any of my computers, and it's not sent by my server either, is there a way to block mails that tend to use in field FROM @mydomain.com? The whole issue is described here: http://forum.spamcop.net/scwik/FromAddressForgery

Is there a way to stop this?

    With regards,

    Natively? No
This is the oldest spammer trick in the book. Your antispam software should be finding the messages and removing them. However ensure that you haven't white listed your own domain.

      Re: Receiving emails from myself

Thank You, that was answer i was looking for. My boss seems preety crazy about this and he's calling for help The problem is we don't have any spam solution on serwer (except for builtin Exchange feature) and Eset Smart Security on stations.

So i was wondering what's the best anti-spam software for Exchange (on SBS 2003) with 2nd server being used as FRONT. For about 40 mailboxes.

What i found were Barracuda Spam Firewall, GFI Mail Defense Suite (althought i don't see option to integrate with ESET NOD32 and i don't want another type of antivirus software in my network) or some Symantec (Brightmail or Mail Security) solution.

From those the one i am thinking to buy is GFI, do you guys have any opinion about those kind of systems? And will it fix the spam once and for all ?

There is no such thing as "best" antispam software.
You have to purchase what is suitable for you.

Do not make a purchasing decision based in the price alone, or what someone else says. You need to evaluate the different products and see what works for you. GFI might work for you, it might not. The only way to know is to evaluate, with the product on report or tag mode so that you know what it would block and ensure that it isn't blocking legitimate email.
