  • Selective domain sending for delivery/read receipts?

    Dear All,

This is my first 'proper' post to the forum so I'd like to say hello to you all and pleased to make your aquaintance This should hopefully be a fairly easy one to answer for those in the know.

"Is it possible to pick and choose which domains 'delivery' and 'read' receipts are sent to at an Exchange server level (not at the Outlook client level)?"

As an example, an associate of mine from outsidedomain.com sends me an email. I like this guy and don't mind him seeing that I've read his email so I therefore want Exchange to process and send the receipt. However, another associate of mine from anotheroutsidedomain.com I DO NOT want seeing that I've read his email and want to block it at an Exchange level.

Is this possible? Like I say, I know there are options in the later Outlook clients where you can pick and choose who get read receipts (unf, this is locked down by GP in my domain) but I'm asking if it is possible at an Exchange level?

Many thanks for any input in advance

    Ben

Which Exchange? This forum covers 2000 and 2003.

The only setting that might do it is in ESM, Global Settings, Internet Message Formats. Add the domain to the list and then on the properties enable "Allow Message Delivery Reports". If that doesn't do it then no, it isn't possible.

Thats not possible. Delivery reports are fairly arbitrary and at an exchange level they cannot be routed via an exchange rule. The setting within ESM will either turn it on or off. Exchange has no inbuilt awareness as to a designated client that can/cannot receive a delivery report. That can only be done from Outlook per se.

          Guys,

Thanks for your input. I am referring to Exchange 2000 (I did tag it 'Exchange 2000' but have just realised that it doesn't really show up within the post anywhere).

I was pretty sure this wasn't possible but someone from outside our organisation swore blind that it WAS possible at a server level which made me a little unsure.
I've since called his bluff and asked him to send me instructions on how to do so. If by some small, no, *minute* chance it is possible, I'll let you all know. I have a feeling that'll be the last of it though
