  • Exchange restore via NT Backup fails if Last Restore Set is checked

I have a Exchange 2003 sp2 standard in production use and a clone of the server running in the lab as a standby spare. I have been able to use NT Backup to create an online bkf file of exchange servers and restored them on lab spares with no problems but this one fails with log signature number errors.

If I run the NT Restore, and check the box "Last Restore Set" to play the log files the database will not mount and it fails with event ID 457: "Information Store (274 Restore0001: The log signature of the existing logfile E00.log doesn't match the logfiles from the backup set. Logfile replay cannot succeed unless all signatures match."

But if I run NT Restore and do not check the box "Last Restore Set" to play the log files, then when it is done, I run eseutil /cc to play the log files the database mounts fine. So this has me puzzled. The .bkf file is obviously ok but for some reason NT Backup will not restore and play the log files correctly.

    Any thoughts from you gurus?

    Thanks,
    Les
