  • lost a mail

    Hello,

first my configuration : 1 Cluster, 2 nodes with Exchange 2003 SP2 on Windows 2003.

I have a problem with only one mail, an internal user send a mail to a distribution group (Domain local) and she reveives the delivery :
Objet : Delivery Status Notification (Expanded)
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Your message has been successfully delivered to the following distribution lists.

But nobody has received this mail. The tracking say :
SMTP: Message Queued for Local Delivery
But in the queue folder no mail

Where is this mail? Thank's to help me.

    Re: lost a mail

Restart the SMTP Server service and see if that releases the message. There is an internal processing queue within Exchange that you don't have access to.

Ensure that no AV software is scanning the Exchange directory structure, as that can block the messages.

    Simon.

Thank's for the answer but i have restarted a few times the smtp service, and i'm sure that the anti-virus don't scan the Exchange structure and datas.

        Re: lost a mail

If you haven't put the specific exclusions in to the AV application then there is a good chance it is scanning locations it should not be. AV is too aggressive not to.

Mail does not go missing on its own. Something has removed the message from the queue, outside of Exchange. If it was Exchange integrated AV/Antispam then it would have stopped at the categoriser. Therefore it has to be something outside of Exchange.
