  • Error Installing Exchange 2003

    Dear Friends,

I Have The Following Problem. I Have A Customer With Win2000 Dc And Exchange 2003 Installed On The Same Server. I Would Like To Install Exchange 2003 On A New Machine With Win2003 R2. I Joint The Old Domain On Win2000 From The New Server And Promoted The New Server As An Additional Dc In An Existing Domain. I Used Adprep From The R2 Cd To Extend The Schema On The Old Server With No Errors. After Loging In The New Server As An Administrator Of The Domain And Trying To Install Exchange 2003 I Can Not Run Setup/forestprep Or Setup/domainprep And The Setup Exist With An Error. The Eventlog States That The Gusetup Had Experiance An Unecpected Error.

Can Someone Please Help Me If Possible To Find The Source Of The Problem. Any Other Suggestions On How To Remove The Old Dc And Also Move The Exchange To The New Hardware?

    Thanks In Advance

    Thomas

There is an Exchange Server Setup Progress Log in the root of C:. What does it show?

Did you install DNS on the new DC and let it sync? Is it also a global catalog?
It isn't best practice to have Exchange on a DC and there are some requirements if it is going to be there.

I Will Post The Error Log So You Can See. No The New Dc Is Not A Dns And Not A Gc. Does It Need To Be A Gc?

You are going to remove the old server according to the post below so would need to do this anyway. Install DNS and make it a GC then let it replicate. Will wait for the log.

If you are installing Exchange on a DC, then it MUST be a Global Catalog to work correctly.
If this is going to be the only DC in the domain then it should have DNS Server on it as well. You must have a DNS server inside the domain - using your ISPs Servers for DNS is not acceptable and will not work.
