  • Global Address List not available

Windows 2000 Server AD, with Exchange Server 2003
The GAL is empty and I can't create new Outlook profiles.
Error : 'The name could not be matched to a name in the address list'
I could not find a solution in the forum.
Everything worked well, untill I ran RUS.
Anybody out there who knows how to fix this ?? Thanks.

In Exchange System manager, do you still have the Default GAL under All GAL's ?

Are appropriate security permissions setup for people to read\use this GAL ? And does the GAL still have a valid filter rule ?

      GAL not available

Yes, the default GAL is still visible under All Address Lists.
The filter works. I can see everybody in the Preview.
User rights are correctly setup : read access

I once had the same problem, right after install. Outlook could not open the address list. No Outlook profiles could be created. OWA did see the global address list.

My solution was: RESTART ALL GLOBAL CATALOG SERVERS!

After that the global address list was up and running for Outlook.

I hope this helps all of you with this weird problem.
