  • removing Ex2003 - eventconfig & DC

    hi
i'm about to remove one Exchange 2003 server from the site.
i followed all howto's but i'm missing to things:

    1. a system public folder eventconfig_OlDServerName exists under system public folders. ther'e no eventconfig_Newserver for that matter. what should i do? ignore? replicate and then remove the old server from replication?

    2. the old server is a DC as well. i guess that i should remove the exchange before demoting the server. is that right?

    thanks

Not all system folders have to be replicated. Some are unique to that server. The one you have indicated is not on my list to be replicated, so can be ignored.

    Remote Exchange first, then reboot.
    Then DCPROMO, reboot again.
Finally drop the machine out of the domain.

You may have to restart the System Attendant on any other Exchange servers you have. I would actually do that anyway. That will cause the store to go offline, so do the work out of hours.

    Simon.

      Tahnks Simon.
      please, i don't understand why there's no evenconfig_NewSERVER folder?

and what do you mean by "hours"? should i prepare for a long night? this may fail?

      thanks!

That must be something corrupt. I have just checked a clean Exchange 2003 server and it does not have the folder either. Therefore I would ignore it.

Out of hours, away from production time when people are working. It doesn't take long, but it will cause some downtime.

Doesn't that folder only exist if the server has been upgraded?
            cheers

Can't answer that question as I never in-place upgrade Exchange.
