  • email conflicts filling up mailboxes

    Hi,

I am having a problem at the moment with a couple of users who are finding that their mailboxes are reaching the mailbox limits on a weekly basis. It seems that the cause of this is email conflicts. They are racking up about 160mb of conflicts a week.

Our messaging systems runs on Exchange 2003, with Outlook 2003 clients. We have about 60-70 mailboxes in total and mailboxes are set to cached mode. bout 7 of these users have blackberries including the 2 mentioned above.

I have not been able to find any relevant information via the usual sources i.e. google, forums etc and I am at a loss as to how to resolve this. We have been deleting the conflicts on a weekly basis only for them to reaccumulate and fill the mailbox again after about a week.

I read somewhere that blackberry could be causing these conflicts:
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...ched-mode.html

However te users require a cached mailbox as they are mobile workers so I would prefer not to turn this off just yet.

Other information advises to view the conflicts and then delete the conflicting items or duplicates but repeat or new conflicts just keep stacking up again a week later.

Does anyone have any advice on this? I have inherited this system from a previous admin and I am currently trying to figure out how he has set it all up or to see if he has missed a setting somewhere that would alleviate this issue but I am havig no joy.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Re: email conflicts filling up mailboxes

I have run large sites with Blackberry and cached mode and never had any problems with conflicts.

    What exactly is conflicting?
Are you using a BES or the desktop software to sync the devices? If you are using the desktop software then I would suggest a switch to BES. There is a version that is free for the first device and the cost of the CALs up to 30 devices. I actually say that anyone using Blackberry devices without a BES has the device for showing off, not work, because in an Exchange environment you have about 10% of the functionality of the Blackberry device.

We are using a BES. At my last company we had about 300 BB users using cached mode and no issues but then I wasn't involved in the Exchange admin there and I've taken over someone else's system here.

It may not be to do with Blackberry but it was just something I stumbled across when I was trying to find information. Thanks for your reply.

Re: email conflicts filling up mailboxes

        What are the conflicts though?
        Mail, Contacts, Calendar?

Is there a third party tool involved anywhere that interfaces with Exchange? A CRM for example?

High number of conflicts is very unusual so it has to be an external source.

Re: email conflicts filling up mailboxes

They are email conflicts. We do not have a CRM or other such 3rd party tool that could interfere as far as I can see.

It does seem to be just 2 BB users at the moment that are having problems. Only one person has mentioned the problem and he suggested the other BB user had a similar issue.

I have noticed that some users are logging on to their laptops with local user accounts rather than their domain accounts. Could this be causing the conflicts rather than the Blackberry? Or could they both be causing an issue? I have only just found out about people using local accounts.

          Cheers,
          Steve

Highly unusual for BES to cause email conflicts. I have deployed lots of them and it isn't something I have seen before.

If you only have a small number of Blackberry devices on the BES I would be tempted to remove it for a while and see if the conflicts continue - that will confirm if BES is causing the problem or not.

              Hi Sembee,

thanks for your advice. I will have a look at these solutions when the user is back in the office.

              cheers,
              Steve
