  • Exchange 2003: Internal email only accounts

I have been asked to set up accounts on my exchange 2003 server that have access to send and recieve to our internal GAL. I've tried researching how to do this, but can't find any concrete information. Can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks/

        Hello,

Here is what you need to do

Create an SMTP connector for Internet

        For you reference

How to Create an SMTP Connector for Internet Mail Delivery
        http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124485(EXCHG.65).aspx

Now on Properties of SMTP connector > Delivery Restriction
        Reject Messages From
Add the users for who are not allowed to send email to internet.

        Done
        Thanks & Regards

          Thanks v-2nas.

Can I put an AD group rather then an AD user under "Reject Messages from:"? It would be a lot easier to manage and we may have a good number of users that we want to prohibit external mail from.

Does this block incoming from external as well?

Re: Exchange 2003: Internal email only accounts

Nope It won't block incoming email.

I haven't tried with groups. My lab doesn't have internet access so couldn't. But try this out

Created mail enabled Global Distribution Group (preferably universal if you have multiple domains)

            Add few mail enabled users

Then add that group to the restrict delivery restriction

Then try sending out email to internet from one of the users account who is the member of that Distribution Group

If that works then party other just add all of them manually .
            Thanks & Regards

Re: Exchange 2003: Internal email only accounts

A guess for me would be that a mail enabled group would just block the groups email address? Only guessing though.
              cheers

Lets see if Mike has tested it out or not. I haven't configured my vm's to have xs to internet so couldn't try it out.
                Thanks & Regards
