  • Editing Signatures with Mfcmapi

    Hi

I have download mfcmapi so I can insert an <img> tags in an OWA signature.

I know (from other threads) that its in there somewhere, does anyone know the name of the key and how I can traverse to it.

    TIA

I've not looked particularly hard, but my brief research suggests that this isn't what MfcMapi is intended to be used for. Could you please post a link to your research suggesting that it can be used for what you want to achieve?

      Re: Editing Signatures with Mfcmapi

      Hi Gareth

      Sure,
      http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=7886

The mfcmapi is a pretty comprehensive (and dangerous!) tool.

We know that OWA stores its signatures in the store, as basically it has no where else to store it. We also know that mfcmapi is MS store editor.

So, I can't see why your research suggests you can't use it to edit signatures.

If you do know where the key is please let me know. As for research, I have read the mfcmapi.doc file and had a look through msexchange.org.

      Thanks
      jon

Images in signatures? Do you like to bloat your store?

10 users, sending 10 messages a day. The image is 5k. That is 500k of additional bloat in the store a day. Or 122mb of additional bloat in the store per year. That is just 10 users.

My standard argument to this is - point to me a major company who uses signatures globally with images. You will not find one.

If you want to manage signatures, do it centrally using something like Exclaimer.

        Simon.

Our sister company does... we're working on it though.

Valid point, but in this instance he is trying to embed <img> tags in the signature... unless I'm missing something then all he wants to do is add a bit of text that will link to an image stored on a webserver somewhere. Assuming the recipient views the message as HTML, of course.

            Re: Editing Signatures with Mfcmapi

            Hi Sembee

I agree, personally I don't have a sig and I use plain text email. If I want to do anything fancy I'll attach a .pdf. But this client wants their emails to look like their letterhead.

I didn't want to "mime attach" the signature, I just wanted to insert an <img> tag, so this technique shouldn't bloat the store, even if I did as the store is already over 90Gb, I probably wouldn't notice the extra usage.

However, I have now got it working using EmailSignature from http://www.officeaddon.com/

Although even this has problems as it does have a tendancy to show the signature twice, show the signature twice (sorry )

Anyway as its working, I shall abandon the mfcmapi approach.

            Regards
            jon

I mean major - Microsoft, IBM, Boeing etc. Doesn't happen, for the reason I am about to give...

And increase the chances of the messages being flagged as spam. Images in email messages are a major issue and are still used as a flag for many antispam tools.

                Re: Editing Signatures with Mfcmapi

That's part of the reason why we want to put a stop to it. The main reason being that it's a pain in the backside on the rare occasion when we print off an email.

Or on the frequent occasion when some pleb in sales prints it off, only to hand the printout straight to the guy at the next desk. Urge to kill... rising......

While it might not be a major problem if it annoys us, if it annoys a customer, then that's not the best.

It wasn't clear if you were advocating the use of images in signatures or against them. I read it as a supporter of it.

                    Oh no.

You do see some bleddy daft things in people's signatures though (email and otherwise). One client insists on scanning a high res image of their business cards and including that in the signature... ever seen a one line email take up 3MB?

My favourite though had to be on a forum where some retard (un-PC maybe, but warranted) decided to scan his drivers licence, passport and national insurance card, and include the images in his signature, as proof of identity. Pretty sure a number of us sent him PMs to say he forgot his credit cards...
