  • use Black Berry with Exchange 2003 with no BES in place

Is there a way to connect Black Berry device to E2003.
Mobile is enabled and people have no problem with use of different devices IPHONE, Treo.

I configured BES for with Exchange. And never tried to connect BB to Exchange directly. Probably I can forward e-mail to BB address.

But I feel there should be a way to use BB as other PDA.

    Thx.

You cannot connect Blackberry to Exchange directly.

Unless you are using a BES you are faced with two options.

      - the desktop software
      - forwarding email.

As far as I am concerned, neither of those solutions are very good. Blackberry without a BES is basically a toy, not a productivity tool because you are missing 80% functionality.
When you can get a version of BES for free for the first device and then the additional CALs pretty cheap, it doesn't make sense to try and do it any other way.

        Thanks for both of you.
The user is in Spain so I gave him instructions...

Yes, I have some small offices with 2-3 BB users but there I setup BES on Virtual machine.

In this case it's a bit different. The office is in Canada (here few people using IPone) and new user is in Spain... Probably we'll end up with forwarding e-mails to his BB account.

The location of the server compared to the user makes no difference with Blackberry. Everything goes through RIM's servers in Canada. I have supported users from a server in the UK, who are physically in every continent. As long as they have coverage from their mobile network the device works.

Some blackberries have a POP3 option, while not quite all the BB features at least you are not forwarding.

I guess it depends on your carrier.

But really I would put the a Blackberry professional server in a VM, connect that to exchange.

I think one license free BES option comes with purchase of BB device...
              Thant's why I mentioned countries.

I do not think country makes a difference, but then again I have never been to Spain.

                  So?
The free BES CAL only applies to the first device, not to all devices. The country the device is in has no effect on the ability to use that license.

As I have already said, the country the device is in has no bearing on the country the server is in.
