    Re: hide GAL

The question I have to ask is why?

    The consequences are considerable.

You will be unable to configure Outlook clients without knowing the LegacyExchangeDN value and jumping through other hoops.
You will be unable to set permissions on anything within Outlook - so public folders, other folders.

Users will be unable to find each other in the GAL, so internal email will basically be impossible for most users.

What I really want, is your third point, I dont want to let the users find one the other, without the other side efects, is it possible?

        Re: hide GAL

        Short answer is no.
Exchange is a collaboration platform. If you don't want users to email each other or even see each other in the GAL then what is the point in having Exchange! You may as well deploy an IMAP/POP3 server, because you are basically taking away the bulk of the functionality.

You are trying to resolve a personnel issue with a technical solution.
If you don't want people to abuse the email system then an internal policy with disciplinary factor will soon stop it.

Or to quote another Exchange MVP, "There are seldom technical solutions to behavioural problems".

This is a behaviour problem, not a technical issue.

Would you stop everyone from driving cars because a few people cannot use them correctly?

Crippling the product will not stop this kind of thing from happening.
If you have users abusing "All Staff" type lists then block who can send to it. If they are doing mass emails then restrict the number of recipients on an email.

              Thanks Sembee,

But at least is there a solution, how to change the default contacts at the outlook from the global one to the personal list?

You can change the address list that is used first - although it is a client side setting. I don't think it can be set by group policy.

Not that I am aware of. I have been looking for two or three years.
The settings are stored in Outlook, not in the registry, so group policy cannot do anything with it.
