  • error when try to add sender to blocked list

Whenever user try to add an e-mail to the blocked senders list, the attached message appears.
I found related KB and changed the size of lists (what was recommended).
    It didn't help.

I don't have a problem to add senders to block senders list. It means that Exhcnage configuration is OK. For now only 1 user complained.

    What else to check?

Re: error when try to add sender to blocked list

The best thing you can do is flush our your blocked senders list.

I can guarantee that doing so will make zero difference to the level of spam that is received because spammers do not use the same address more than once.

The limit is finite, but it is not designed as an antispam solution. It is designed to be used with vendors who do not unsubscribe you and you constantly receive emails from the same email address.

A new Outlook profile is not going to help because this is a server side limit which cannot be increased.

Re: error when try to add sender to blocked list

Thanks sembee, good point. I re read it. ((it's been a long day))

To help prevent junk mail I configured the IMF filter 'Sender filtering' There you can block whole domains *@badmailcompany.com

But all the addressed do change and you can never catch them all.

Whats worth looking into is configuring your IMF filter to block based on key words, this was introduced in SP2, it works great when configured correctly.

A bit more stuff on IMF

Re: error when try to add sender to blocked list

IMF works after very efficient Antispam system.
There are very few messages that goes to Junk folder.
But the user that had a problem is a Salesman. So he needs to add to block list. Exactly what Simon mentioned in his tip.
My role was to make it work.

              Thanks.

Blocking on sender as an antispam solution is a waste of time.
If it was that easy to block spam then everyone would be doing it.
The fact is that all spam is spoofed, and spammer move between email addresses very quickly.
To efficiently block spam you either have to look at the content or look at the source. That is why blacklists, reverse DNS lookups and their type are so widely used.

                  Hi sembee, thanks for that.

I can see why it would be a waste of time although it's worked for me just fine in the past.
Even when mail systems are protected by multiple blacklists the spam usually still finds a way.
To get the ones that get through I configured exchange to block them based on keywords in the subject and/or body.
When time is taken to configure this and add the appropriate filter words it works really good.

I can guarantee that filtering on addresses will have zero impact on the amount of spam that you receive.

I am talking about genuine spam here, not messages from people who cannot setup their list servers correctly, or do not allow or ignore unsubscribe requests.

Re: error when try to add sender to blocked list

I never ment using sender filtering as an antispam solution. I ment that i used it as an additional layer of filtering for single addresses

Doesn't matter which way you state it, it is a waste of time except for the scenario that I outlined above.
