  • Problems in exchange?

    Hello,
    I have couple of problems.

I had only one server machine before, so i was forced to install exchange and active directory on it. But now i have purchased a new machine and i want to move my exchange server to it. I have exchange 2003 and server 2003 enterprise.

Will swing work for me in this situation?

Secondly how can I send an auto-generated email for users for there first logon?

    Regards
    ADnan

    Re: Problems in exchange?

Why not install Exchange 2003 on the new box, move mailboxes and roles, wait for it to settle and test then uninstall Exchange off the old box?
    cheers

      Re: Problems in exchange?

Why would you think that swing was not possible?
Swing is basically the move of data from one active server to another.
I have outlined the method here: http://www.amset.info/exchange/migration.asp

Done with care it causes no downtime and no disruption to the users. They will not even notice that anything has changed.

To answer your second question, there is no native way of sending new users a welcome email. However if you Google for welcome email Exchange then you will find scripts that will go through the domain for you and send the message.
