ok I have redone my SBS server. I have internet and everything is ok.

heres my new problem. Before I shutdown old server I made all email files into pst files so I can add them on each users desktop.

When I try that it says that the exchange server and outlook is offline.

I have been at this for 3 days. What am i doing wrong?

    PLease help

    Re: exchange offline

Is this SBS 2000 or 2003?
Have you run the CIEW wizard?
Have you checked the event logs and services status?
Have you checked if OWA is working?

      Re: exchange offline

Have you changed your Outlook so it points to the new server? Does it resolve names ok? Does OWA work for the users?
If you create a new topic please try and add in the relevant information from previous topics as I, for example, only knew about the previous SBS problems because I saw you had 2 other posts.

        Re: exchange offline

        ok sorry about that.
        I am using SBS 2003
heres the thing...to be honest I dont know what I did but low and behold its wroking sort of....
I am now importing my pst files. its asking for a password. I never set passwords for them. I s there away around that?

Heres the other option. I still have the old server. I do not want to connect to my new network. So I was going to hook up as stand alone. I have a external HDD. and redo it. but I think I will end up right where I started. Exmerge doesnt work either I did it with Migration wizard. copied pst fioles to external hdd and then copied it over...

        any ideas?

          Re: exchange offline

Make sure the PST files aren't read only.

The migration wizard asks you when you run it for a password. What did you select?
          http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/...on-Wizard.html

If the wizard runs I would be suprised if ExMerge didn't but as you have the psts now then see if you can get it to work with the passwords you set.

Hmm looks like that is the account creation bit.

How did you create the PST files? What didn't work with ExMerge?
              cheers

Copy the contents of exmerge into the exchsrvr "bin" directory and try again.

                      Glad it is working.
Were the passwords randomised like the link showed?
                      cheers

                        Re: exchange offline

yes with no. and letters...ok another issue

I think or at least hope this it the last one. When I send a n email I get this

The recipient could not be processed because it would violate the security policy in force
                        <@#$ #5.7.0 smtp;530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first>

                        what does this mean?

oh and when I added my pst file the address book is empty...where do I go on the old server to find them for individual users...

                        thanks

                            address book is ok.....

I looked on my old server and none of that is set up....

heres what our set up is...its odd....
we use Bell home for our internet and email...
but they went with open source host for our website so now our emails are now changed to that. do u know what I mean..

so when I call bell they say no its not us...I call open source and they say its not them...I am getting confused..

The PAB would be on the workstations if it exists.

Did you read the link I posted regarding TLS?
