  • No calendar availability and off line address book after exchange crash/rebuild.

    Hi all.... need some assistance

    Environment:
    - Single domain, Two sites, Site one exchange1, Site two exchange2 connected VIA VPN (both exchange are SP2, running on srv03 STD R2 SP2)

A few days ago exchange2 crashed cussing the corruption of: priv1.edb and pub1.edb
Priv1.edb with all the mailboxes was successfully recovered, but pub1.edb i.e. public folders was not.
There for I created fresh public folders on exchange2.
Since then users connected to exchange2 cant see calendar availability of all the organization.
Since then users connected to exchange2 get error that they cant get off line address book.
Users from exchange1 can see calendar availability of all the organization.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

I'm thinking that you need to replicate the contents of the PF tree from exchange1 to exchange2. I'm not sure why it wouldn't do this automatically but look into it from that perspective. Both the Free/Busy information and the OAB are maintained in the PF tree, which is why users connecting to exchange2 are having problems.

It sounds like the public folder replication isn't taking place.
How did you recover the server? Was Exchange reinstalled? Is this the same machine?
If PF replication was taking place then if the server has been recovered correctly then PF replication should still occur.

You can check the replication by opening ESM, Folders, Public Folders. Right click on Public Folders and choose View System Folders.
Then check on the properties of the key system folders (Free/Busy, OAB and org Forms) that both servers are listed as replicas - don't forget to check sub folders as well.

        Simon.

Re: No calendar availability and off line address book after exchange crash/rebuild.

          Hi

the exchange2 server crashed due to power/UPS failure.
the OS rebooted OK after power was restored, exchange indicated corrupt DB
i used eseutil to fix priv1 but it did not work on pub1 neither the pub1 from backup tape. so i created a new pub1, knowing it will replicate from exchange1

i did go to ESM, Folders, Public Folders, Free/Busy like you advised.
both servers are listed as replicas.
but if i right click exchange2 and select 'synchronize content' i get:

'the Microsoft exchange information store service could not find the specified object'
          ID no c1041722

          thanks
