  • Exclude Domain Controller from DSAccess (possible?)

    Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to exclude a specific DC from DSAccess? I know this is possible with 2007 but I can't find a way for 2003 (assuming you can). I have seen the process to scan others before the PDC emulator however, unfortunately, this box isn't it!
    cheers
    Andy

    Hi.
Exchange Servers in ESM | Properties | Directory
Access | show | Domain controllers.
You could manually configure it there.

I do tend to think 'outside the box' so others may not always share the same views.

    MCITP -W7,
MCSA+Messaging, CCENT, ICND2 slowly getting around to.

Hmm, hadn't thought about that. Seems so simple...
I could just manually set a list of servers for each one. Not quite as smooth as I would like but certainly better - thanks

EDIT: I think this still leaves me with the original problem. The config controller can only have a single DC. I would prefer this to be auto found however I have a DC that I do not want to be picked up. Manually setting the others doesn't restrict this I believe?

In AD, all domain controllers are equal.
If you have a DC that you don't want Exchange to use, then why is it a domain controller?
If that machine is located elsewhere then you need to look at your sites and services configuration in AD so that Exchange doesn't use it.

It shouldn't be in the site agreed but getting it changed is another problem.

In the interim I want to exclude it from Exchange's search but, as you say, they are all equal so you can't. Interestingly MS did bring in this functionality in 2007 so I may not be the only one wanting it! Thanks for the reply.
