  • moved domain now can't email

Hello all. We had several companies together but now have seperated. THe one that moved out of the office can email to the old office but when the old office emails them it goes to the old exchange. i removed the recipient policies and removed the alternative upn suffixes from the old domain and rebuilt the RUS. When you send to the new location it says error from old server 5.1.1
I don't see a log that might tell me if it even talked to the new server. Thanks for your help

The most common reason for this is users having the old addresses cached somewhere. The server treats them as internal messages and NDRs them back.

Re: moved domain now can't email

There is only one place that Exchange holds that information - and that is in recipient policies. If the domain has been removed from recipient policies then Exchange has no further record of that domain being one it is responsible for.

However recipient policies updates the SMTP virtual server, and it is not unheard of for that configuration not to be updated correctly. Restarting the Exchange and IIS services can sometimes force it to update, but other times you have to start looking at the IIS metabase. That is something best done under the guidance of Microsoft support, because if you get it wrong then you will stop all email flowing.
