  • Moving My Mailboxes

I have finally got my RAID setup and configured the best way that I think I should. I have my O/S mirrored on drives 0 and 1.

Drives 2,3,4 and 5 and set as a raid and that is where I want my mailboxes. Drive D:\

Drives 6,7 and 8 are raid and that is where I was thinking of putting log files.
    Drive E:\

How do I get those things off the C:\ drive and moved over?

    Thanks!

Use Exchange System Manager to change the location of the files, ESM will then move them for you. Note that it will dismount the mailbox stores during the move so it's best to do this after hours.

      Wonderful....that sounds easy enough.

Do you agree with my drive philosophy?

I was wondering if it was OK to use the last two drives for the logs but mirror them so that it only needs two and that would give me another for my RAID?

I think your plan is pretty solid. You should always separate the database from the log files IMHO and a RAID1 configuration for the logs is a good solution. The RAID5 for the database (mailboxes) is also a good way to go.

Great. Just to make sure that what you call RAID1 is mirroring right? I am 99% sure...

Right. RAID1 is mirroring. RAID5 is striping with parity.
