  • Ex2003 fe-be ssl configuration

    Hello.
I have two exchange 2003 servers, one is a front end and the other is a back end server. I'm trying to configure ssl to work on both and then configure my isa 2k4 server.
At the moment I have requested an ssl cert from my internal ca. The cert has been issued to my back end server, this works fine. Now i'm unsure of what to do with my front end exchange server, do i need to request a seprate cert for this one? or can I use the cert that my back end server is using?

Any advice and guidance would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks.

You shouldn't have any certificate on the backend server. It should only be on the frontend server or the ISA server.

Although if this is for external use then you really should use a commercial certificate, not an internal CA.

If you want encryption between FE and BE then you could look into IPSEC.
