  • Exchange 2003, Outlook 2007 OAB Sync error - 0X8004010F

    Hi,

I am running Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2007 clients, all running in cached mode as users are out of the office often.
I recently migrated to a new domain. User machines that were migrated using ADMT are able to sync fully but any newly built or purchased machine I join to the domain is not able to sync the OAB and receive a 0X8004010F error.

I have tried rebuilding the Default Offline Address Book, have created a new OAB and linked it to my mailstore but none of this is working.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    The error means cannot find.
Therefore you have to look to see whether the Offline Address Book system folders are present in the public folder store.

Thanks Simon. The OAB is working for some users from the same mailbox store. The issue seems to be machine specific, that is any machine that I join the domain, anyone who logs onto this receives this error. If the user then logs onto a machine that I had migrated to the domain using the ADMT tool then they can sync the OAB no problem.

I am not sure if this is a rights issue, that the newly joined machine has not the correct rights but I am not sure to what and where to check this.

With your point on the Public Folders, could some machines have rights to this and then others not?

Also I should explain the environment more. The users experiencing the problem are in one site, with their own Exchange server. The main Exchange server that hosts the OAB is located at another site. Just in case that helps!

Have you replicated the system folders to the other Exchange server?
If it is only related to users on one specific server then that would tend to indicate where the problem is.
OAB, Org Forms and the Free/Busy folders should be replicated to all servers in the Exchange org.

Default OAB is set to replicate to both servers. Have to keep coming back to the issue that this is machine specific and that it works for any user on that specific server if they are using a machine that I migrated to this domain but if they use a newly joined machine then they receive this error?? It is not a user issue.

Where do I need to look on the replication side that will affect machines and not mailboxes?

            Thanks,

            Barbara

If you have users on the server that are not getting the error - and you have to be very sure about that, then the problem is not with the Exchange server.

              End of story.

If the problem was with the Exchange server then it would affect everyone who has a mailbox on that store. Settings are per store, not per server. Therefore if the public folder store wasn't set correctly it would be a wrong setting on the mailbox store and that would affect everyone.

Therefore it has to be an issue client side.

Have you tried recreating the Outlook and/or Windows profile?

Some of them are new users on new machines so are brand new profiles and mail accounts.

Have logged in myself to two machines. On one I can download the address book, on the new machine I receive the 0X8004010F error.

When I go to Tools>Send/Receive>Download Address Book I notice on the working machine the Choose address book option is "\Global Address List" and on the machine that doesn't work it states "Download Offline Address Book list". I have attached screenshots of this. I think this could be my issue.

The problem is client side for sure.
While I appreciate that the profiles are new, I would still be looking to recreate at least one to see if the problem is resolved. You may also want to look to see if the Outlook Address Book service is listed in the profile configuration.

Any update on this, we have a similar issue with one pc that continues to have this error. We have only a single exchange server.

With one PC the error is client side. Nothing to do with Exchange. Therefore you have to start tearing the client machine apart. New Outlook profile, new Windows profile etc.
