  • Incoming mail problem on SBS 2003

I am having a problem with our SBS2003 Server. Everything was working fine until Friday when the Exchange server stopped receiving incoming messages.

I checked the event logs but could not see any relevent errors.

I have tried telneting into the the exchange server on port 25.

Either I get dropped back to the command line immediatly or I get a flashing cursor. If I enter a command like VRFY as I am typing the command I get dropped back to the C prompt.

All services set to automatic are running.

I have scanned for viruses using 2 different AV's and have ran a different anti spyware scanner on the server but have found nothing.

I ahve applied the latest service packs to exchange and 2003 but this has not helped.

I am not sure where to look next.

    does anyone have any suggestions?

If you don't get the SMTP banner then something is blocking port 25.
Test it internally to begin with, if it works there then it is either your firewall or your ISP.

      Hi thanks,

It does not work on the exchange server itself. I haveddisabled the firewall and ran the internet connection wizzard again.

i am going to check all the security settings on the smtp server.
