  • Mounting edb on different server

    Hi there,

At home I have (had) a server which was domain controller and Exchange server.
The hard drive crashed and the server won't boot up anymore.

I was able to recover the D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr directory, including the .ebd files.

The database files are in Dirty shutdown state.

How can I mount the database on a newly created Exchange server?

    TIA, Martin

    HI,

if the AD enviroment is same(before crash) then i dont thing there will be a problem in recovery.

for mounting you have to fill the gaps of ad/exchange

      Hi,

That really is the problem. The domain and the Exchange server were on the same machine, so I have to create a new AD.

Maybe there is a tool that can extract .PST files from a .EDB file; like Exmerge but then on a offline database.

Why don't you rebuild using the same names as before? Also, because the database is in a dirty shutdown state you'll have to fix that before you mount it. Here's more info on the eseutil utility for bringing it to a clean shutdown state:

        And some info on isinteg:

Re: Mounting edb on different server

I did a clean install of the Exchange server using the same names (Not sure about the organisation name, tried several).
I dismounted the Information Stores, copied the old mdbdata directory into the new one and ran eseutil /r E00 to recover the database and put it in clean shutdown state.

When I try to mount the information store I get the message
"An internal processing error has occurred."

Re: Mounting edb on different server

              The problem is solved.
What I have learned is that when a problem like this occurs, also look in the event logs.
The application event log told me that the Organisation Name of the database not equal was to the Organisation Name of the Exchange server.
So, if you have a .edb of which you don't know the FQDN, mount it in an Exchange server with any FQDN.
The message in the Application Event log will tell you the FQDN of the database.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
