  • Antigen 9.1 for MS Exchange

    Hello,

Just like to ask our Exchange experts in this forum about the MS Antigen 9 for Exchange 2003.

We recently installed this on our Exchange 2003 servers. My question is, does Antigen scan the host server as well or is it just the Exchange? Reason I ask is that we uninstalled the Symantec Antivirus on the host server (Windows 2003) when we installed Antigen for Exchange. Do we actually need to install another antivirus such as Symantec on the host server?

    Many thanks.

Antigen is just an Exchange product. It doesn't do anything with the file system. Therefore if you wanted to protect the file system you need separate AV software for that.

However do ensure that the file level AV software is not scanning the Exchange directories, otherwise things can get messy. This is particularly the case with the junk that Symantec provide, which has a habit of quarantining the entire information store.

Thanks for clarifying this Simon. Do you have any recommended AV software for the host server of Exchange?

        Anything but Symantec.
I usually also avoid McAfee and Trend, often on price grounds.

I have a mixture of Grisoft AVG, ESET NOD32 and Avast on various client systems. As long the exceptions are configured correctly you are fine.
