  • Exchange tasks in DC AD

    Hi,

Just a bit of background info that might make things a bit easier to understand, at least for me even if not for anyone else lol.

I have a Win 2k3 domain controller running VMWare Server. Within VMWare Server I have another 2k3 server running WSUS and one running Exchange 2003. I have Exchange setup and running porperly and am able to send and receive emails within the domain as I wanted. It's just a testing domain so not fussed about sending outside.

The problem I have is the Exchange Tasks is missing from the user options within AD on the DC. They are their on the Exchange server and everything works ok. I did a quick google search and it came back with something about Exchange Management Tools but what I downloaded didn't seem to do anything or have any EXEs in.

Anyone able to help? This is my first ever Exchange install so something was bound go wrong lol

    Thanks

Run the Exchange install on the DC using the same installation media you used for the Exchange server, select to install only the management components.

Thanks Installing at the moment so I'll see how it goes

I must admit that I was quite surprised how smoothly the whole installation has gone really.

All there and working now Thanks again. Off to do some more testing and finish setting up WSUS

Don't forget to service pack the installation and ensure that any updates are applied as well. A server with the Exchange management tools should be treated the same as a full server - just without the databases - which includes ensuring that it is kept up to date with patches for Exchange.

Thanks. Will be done shortly, well probably tomorrow now lol

WSUS has just finished synchronizing and all the servers will be pointed towards that to keep them up to date along with the few workstations. Best go approve them now so that they can download overnight
