  • Incoming Mail Flow Report

    Hey,

Please could somebody advise on how I can monitor and form a report that shows which distribution groups in our company are still recieving incoming mails without asking the end users?

We migrated a LOAD of email address from a different mail setup before exchange 2003 was used in the business. At the time all the existing distribution groups were setup in exchange during the migration. I would now like to delete these distribution groups that no longer recieve emails, however...asking the end users would only result in them saying to keep all as nobody wants the responsibilty to say to delete it or not.

If I could find something that could monitor incoming mail flow against all the addresses in the ldap address list over a set period then i could present these findings to all the departments whos distribution groups are in doubt.

any advice or help on this would be great

    thanks in advance

That information isn't stored by Exchange.
You would have to enable message tracking (if it is not enabled already) and then use a third party tool to process those logs. Quest Message Stats, Promodag, Mail Detective are just a few of the applications that can process those logs for you.

Quest message stats is far and away the best, but it is also very expensive.
Mail Detective I have had good results with as well.
