  • Setting up exchange 2003 with ActiveSync for Iphone 3G syncing

I hope I am posing this in the correct forum.

Everything I can find points to having to use an ISA server for the syncing of Iphones to an Exchange 2003 server (mine is 2k3 std.). I already have a hardware firewall set up with our public IP that sends mail to our exchange 2003 server (it is NATed and inside our firewall). I can see no valid reason to add another firewall just for iphone purposes. Can this be set up on the exchange server so no ISA server is needed and if so, how?

I don't know where people keep getting this impression that you need ISA server from. You aren't the first person to post that, and will not be the last.

Is it what is written on Microsoft's web site? Written elsewhere?

Anyway, you don't need ISA, as it is a straight web connection. You should use an SSL certificate though. I have setup instructions on my web site here: http://exchange.sembee.info/mobile/device-setup.asp

I would suggest that you test it using the Windows Mobile emulator to begin with, so that you can confirm it works using native tools before the iPhone implementation is tested.

I think it is down as a "typical" setup on the Apple site.

Yep.. and a lot of MS documentation talks about "ISA Server" all the time. I, too, had gotten a little "lost" a couple fo weeks ago when I setup OMA/ActiveSync on my Exchange server.
