  • question about exchange protocoles...

    Hi everyone,

i took over an existing exchange 2003 server, which someone else have installed before, and i don't understand something concerning the protocoles and the function of the server :

the system is working fine but in the exchange managment tool the protocoles : IMAP4,POP3 are disabled and only the SMTP is active.

wanted to have an explanation about how it's possible that the SMTP and the POP are off but users can still receive mails and don't get into any usual problems.

thank you in advanced, take care.

    Re: question about exchange protocoles...

IMAP and POP3 are client protocols used by Outlook to connect with Exchange when Outlook is configured in "POP" mode. When Outlook is configured in "Exchange" mode it communicates with Exchange via RPC/MAPI. The POP and IMAP protocols do not need to be turned on in Exchange for email communication to work.
