  • repeat emails

    Hi

Make no claims to be an expert on exchange but I can find my way around it.

I have a client running exchange 2000 all the machines connecting to it are running xp with outlook 2000.

One of the desktops has two user accounts each with it's own exchange mail box.

Both those accounts are repeat sending one email 4 or five times aday. All other emails are sent once and once only

The exchange smtp queue is empty yet the emails keep being sent.

On the workstation the "out boxes" shown as empty

Does anyone have an idea of where I should go from here

    thanks

    Ian

    Re: repeat emails

Is it always the same message?
Are there any rules setup that you can see?
I would initially just kill the profile, check OWA is clean and re-set it up.
    cheers

      Re: repeat emails

      Hi

thanks for that! Here is where I sound like an idiot.

It is always the same message and was sent for instance today at 10.46am and 12.16 pm

since then nothing yet tomorrow or later the same message will arrive.

When you say kill the profile do you mean delete the maibox or delete the profile on the XP machines Outlook

As to rules do you rules as in outlook or within the exchange server?

Sorry to be so "dense" but I can happlily delete one account/mailbox and create another ans the user sends very little email but the other is a "core" mailbox and any loss would be catastrophic

      thanks

        Re: repeat emails

Not dense at all, don't worry.
I would check rules first on the mailbox just in case then, if none, try "outlook /cleanrules" (LINK)
Then just setup a new desktop with Outlook installed, log on as the user and open their outlook to see if it is just a machine problem.
Don't delete the mailbox, the profile is just the local outlook one not the exchange side.
        cheers

            Re: repeat emails

            Hi Again

this is sort of egg on face time

I've now found the problem however the solution is eluding me at the moment.

The repeat send emails are in the Outbox of the personal folders not the exchange folders , the messages are in Italics. When I select all and delete nothing happens. Tried dragging them to the delted items that doesn't work either. I suspect it's because the system is "online" that delete is not an option but I cant find a way to tell outlook to work offline to try it

Delete the profile and start again?????

            thanks

              Re: repeat emails

You can't delete them if it is trying to send them so try opening outlook with "/nopollmail" and then deleting them. I've had that before and usually managed to open outlook and quickly delete them before it started, not tried that nopollmail thing but might be worth a try,.
              cheers

                Re: repeat emails

Hi thanks for that I opened it verey quickly but no go. But I copied all data to the exchange boxsss and then created a new outlook data file which enabled me to delete to old one.

So far (touch wood) no emails duplicted

                cheers
