  • Mail not delivered to Inbox using OWA

    Exchange 2003 STD

To save on Office licensing, some users do not have office installed, and therefore use OWA via IE7

User started work, opened OWA and although it informed him he had new mail (bold, next to inbox), there was no new mail viewable in the pane.

I used ESM tracker, and see Simon's view on it taking preference over user stories, and the mail (sent from one ad account on the same server to another) was reported delivered to the box.

Whilst i was looking at this, he was able to send me a mail asking if i had sorted it, although the reply was not received by him.

I opened his mailbox via my Outlook, and everything was perfect. Looked through event viewer on his machine, although nothing stood out.

    Thanks for looking.

With Exchange 2003 you aren't saving anything by making the users work in OWA. TO license Exchange 2003 correctly you need to have CALs. The CALs give the right to use Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003. You don't need to have the full Office installed - I have worked with clients who use Open Office with Outlook!

If you can see everything in Outlook but not in OWA then that says views. The message is being hidden from display in OWA.

Re: Mail not delivered to Inbox using OWA

Thank you for making me aware of the licensing issue.

When used in this way, is Office Outlook downloaded from Microsoft? If not, is the key available from the eopen website after purchase from software partner i.e Misco?

As for the e-mail, it was strange. There aren't many options within owa, although after flipping between latest, eldest, sender etc the mail was suddenly viewable!

I can't remember if it is available on download. However if you ask your vendor for a media kit you will get the Outlook 2003 install CD and license key as part of it.
