  • External contacts and distribution lists

I don't think this is possible but on the off chance it is....

We have numerous distribution list on Exchange 2003 which are managed by the business and not the IMS/IT department.

I have been asked whether it is possible for someone who isn't within our organisation to be a member of a distribution list without their details being added as a contact to AD.

Apart from creating a distribution list within the users own contacts list and adding the exchange distribution list and 'external contact' to it or giving delegation rights to the business to a contacts OU in AD for them to create contacts that will be visible in the GAL is there any other way?

Re: External contacts and distribution lists

All distribution lists are made up of objects in the AD. Therefore for an external email address to be a member of the list it must be a contact.
