  • new created accounts dont have mailboxes

    hello everybody,

I need your help figuring out this problem I have. We run MS Exchange 6.5 on MS Windows Server 2003 SE.

The problem is that when I create a new user, a mailbox is NOT created. Eventually after a while it will appear, but i could never figure out what triggers it.

When I create (or copy) a new user, I check the option to create a mailbox as well. Restarting the server doesnt help. I also rebuilt and updated RUS and it didnt help either.
Because of this problem, when I try to set up an exchange account on the user's outlook, it says that it couldnt find the user name in the address list and thus I cant set up the account.
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you!

How long are you waiting after creating the mailbox? Things don't happen instantly. When you see the user in the GAL then send the user an email and then configure Outlook for them.

Just to clarify what is happening here - Exchange doesn't create the mailboxes until they are required. Therefore if you never used the mailbox - no email is received or anything like that, then the mailbox will not be created. Catches people out when they come to migrate to a new server and get a prompt about there being mailboxes on the server and they cannot see them.
