  • Exchange 2003 server can't be reached!

    hi,
I have a problem to reach my testing exchange server 2003 from internet, it works fine in intranet, I suspect some ports are blocked by my D-link DGL-4300 router, but I open port 25,80, 143,443 already..., below is the portqry output:
    C:\Users\jjiang>portqry -n mail.xyriba.com -p tcp -e 25

    Querying target system called:

    mail.xyriba.com

Attempting to resolve name to IP address...

    Name resolved to 24.46.77.182

    querying...

TCP port 25 (smtp service): LISTENING

Port did not return extended data - request timed out

    thanks in advance!

this is not enough information to adequately help with your issue.

Is smtp runnin on your exchange server?
Does the windows firewall allow access to port 25?
Can you telnet to port 25 on your server from within your network?
Also you make mention that you have a Dlink router, Is your internet connection business or residential? (Some ISP's block smtp traffic on residential lines.

      UDP 127.0.0.1:2559 *:*

      windows firewall is off.

my internet is residential, but before it's working.

I can telnet it from inside network.

Re: Exchange 2003 server can't be reached!

        Some residential ISPs block SMTP.
Can you allow http(s) and get access inbound to the server externally for webmail? If you can then your router is setup correctly assuming your smtp rule matches it pretty much. If not then the issue is on that.

I would more then likely be willing to bet that his ISP is blocking it. That's why i asked whether or not it was residential service or not. About 95% of ISP's dont allow SMTP traffic on residential accounts
