  • When "delete" pressed, how to move a mail to a different folder other than Deleted It

    hi friends,

I am looking for a feature as below Microsoft Office 2003:

When I will press a "Delete" for a mail item, by default it goes to 'Deleted Items" folder. But I would like to move this item to a different folder other than "Deleted item".

The intention of this is : I dont want to delete any item. Rather would like to move to a archive folder.

Can anybody tell me how to configure (either through some MACRO) in Outlook 2003 ?

    Thanks in Advance.

I don't believe that you can - even with a Macro. Delete means delete. The most you could do with a macro is setup up shortcut key combination.

If you are trying to find a way to stop users from deleting content then you cannot. The Microsoft model is that the user owns their data and can do anything they like with it. If you need to retain a copy then this needs to stored outside of the mailbox.

      Here's my question:

Why do some people always want to make something do something other than what it was intended to do? If you don't want items to go into the Deleted Items folder when you delete them, then DON'T delete them. If your users are doing this then educate them. The Deleted Items folder and the Recycle Bin are not storage locations, they are garbage cans. If you want to save something then don't delete it. I don't put my important paperwork in the trash bin at work, I put it in the filing cabinet.

If you need to keep copies of everything for compliance reasons then look into archiving, there are products out there that can do this.

Look at Enterprise KVault from (?Symantec?). It archives mails older than (x) from all enabled mailboxes, but leaves a placeholder icon (and a short preview text) in the mailbox so that it can be recovered easily, simply by double-clicking it like any other email. It is centrally managed and can be rolled out across an entire enterprise relatively easily.

See the screenshot for a quick look at it in action...
