  • Remove NT4 BDC from 2003 AD Domain

Any ideas how I gracefully remove an NT4 BDC from a Windows 2003 AD Domain?

The domain started out as an NT4 domain but overtime the network got upgraded. I am currently installing a new server for a customer to replace an old NT4 file server which was their old PDC (Currently a BDC). I cannot seem to find a way to demote the server. Using 'ntdsutil' should be my last resort but at the minute it looks like its my only option?

There is no graceful method. This isn't like Active Directory with dcpromo.
Shutdown the machine and then use Server Manager (srvmgr) to remove the machine.
Then clean up WINS and DNS to remove the server completely.

Otherwise it is adsiedit.msc hack out.

Life was much simpler in NT4 days.

      It was?

I will give it a few days to make sure everything is running smoothly then i'll forcefully remove it.
