  • OWA 403 error before password expires

I have noticed that when a user's password is about to expire (15 days before) they get a 403 error when logging into OWA. Clicking refresh will bring them to the correct page.

I have seen two posts already in this forum, one specifically with this symptom but there was no solution given. I thought maybe someone has a solution now.

I had this problem for some time. (I thought I had solved it by setting the metabase property of IIS for passwordchangeflags to 4). It did make some difference but did not solve the problem.

Before I made the above setting the users (who's password is about to expire)would get a 403 error every time they log in (even if they log in and out "continuously" so to speak). Now (after i set the passwordchangeflags to 4) if they log in "continuously" they only get the 403 error once. If they log in and out and then log in again say an hour later they still get the 403 error.

    Has anyone experienced this?

Have you got the password change virtual directory set in the web site?

Yeap, it's all set as described in the article. Funny thing is that the 403 errors crop up before the account's password actually expires. I have also set the metabase property passwordExpirePreotifyDays to 0 just in case...but no difference

A little update for those who have had a similar problem.

Seems the 403 error code has nothing to do with IIS. The error code is 403.0. Since IIS produces error codes 403.1 to 403.20 I assumed this is something to do directly with OWA.

Maybe be this info can shed some light?

The problem has been solved by settubg the metabase property of IIS for passwordchangeflags to 4 on the Back End Servers as well not just the Front End Servers
