  • Sent E-Mails never arrive

    Hi,

    I'm running Exchange Standard 2003 SP2 on a Windows 2003 Server.

I've encountered a problem trying to send SMTP to an email domain. I have a smarthost pointing to smtp.star.co.uk but they tell me that although the connection is established to MessageLabs, as soon my Exchange Server tries to send the data, I'm told that my server drops the connection.

I don't know of any other recipient that has this problem. What could be wrong?

Well your smtp log shows that the message was in fact accepted by the server, so exactly what is the problem?

MessageLabs tell me otherwise. They say the connection is dropped by my exchange server before the data can be sent.

        Re: Sent E-Mails never arrive

Get them to check their local SPAM folder and ask their network admin to check the av/as filters. As joeqwerty states :

        2008-05-09 09:01:50 196.217.255.67 OutboundConnectionResponse SMTPSVC1 TBSMX01 - 25 - - 250+Ok:+queued+as+688CC204F50 0 0 29 0 5312 SMTP -

it has got to them so is outside of your control.

I would change your email address in the post as well for anti spam reasons too!

        Also
http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx shows 196.217.255.67 as listed for SPAM reasons too.
Your IP appears clear. ( I would change your server name in the post too personally).
        cheers
        Andy

You can try a telnet session to port 25 of the recipients server from your Exchange server and see if you get any different results. You can also run the smtpdiag tool from your Exchange server and see what that shows. Without a doubt though, the recipients server says that it queued your message.

It isn't clear from this who is the Message Labs customer. Is it you or the customer?
Star is message labs as well. For the others on this question, Message Labs is a major hosted AV and Antispam provider, formally part of Star Internet but now an independent setup, although still using Star Internet's service.

If you are a customer of Message Labs and are sending to them on a Smart Host and it is only to that domain, then I would suspect that Message Labs are rejecting it. Unfortunately based on my experience with Message Labs support, getting them to admit as much will be almost impossible. They operate on the usual ISP support model - there is nothing wrong here (even when there is).

I hope that 196.217.255.67 was a spoofed IP address - if it was you should make that clear. That IP address is in Morocco.

            Simon.
