  • Smart Hosts - a question

    Hello
I was wondering what is the difference (in exchange 2003) of the smart host
at the default SMTP Virtual Server>> delivery tab > advanced

and the smart host at the connetcors >>internet

    THANKS

Re: Smart Hosts - a question

Technically there is no difference. They both do the same thing.

However a smart host on the SMTP virtual server overrides whatever Exchange can find for itself. If you have multiple Exchange servers it can cause a problem, and if you want to send email in different directions you cannot.

Simply rule is never put a smart host on the SMTP virtual server, always put it on an SMTP connector.

The setting is there because it is there in SMTP on a vanilla IIS server and Exchange uses the same properties windows.
