  • Using Instant Messaging 2000 on Exchange 2003

    Hey all,

We have a license for Exchange 2000 and our organization currently is using Exchange 2003 with Windows 2003 Domain. I wonder if it's possible to combine the instant messaging feature of 2000 with our current environment without having to install two seperated domains, or mybe running it on the same domain?

We currently can't afford the upgrade to the new LCS.

    Best Regards,

    Just to add:
If you say it's possible to run the feature on the same domain(Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003). Is it a safe option? or it could lead to conflicts or problem?

If the domain used to have Exchange 2000 installed then you can stand up an old Windows 2000 server and install Exchange 2000 on to it and use IM. However be aware that Exchange 2000 is in an extended support phase, as is Windows 2000, there is no Exchange IM client compatible with Windows Vista and various other problems.

If the site went straight to Exchange 2003 then you cannot install Exchange 2000 in to the domain.

Ideally you should be looking at OCS.
