  • Exchange Mail Flow issue with VPN

    Hi,

We have two exchange 2003 standard edition servers in two different locations A & B. These two locations are VPN IPsec tunnelled through ISA 2004(A) and Sonicwall (B) Firewalls. Mail Flow exchange is configured through this VPN Ipsec tunnel i.e., when email from location A is sent, it flows through this VPN tunnel , reaches Exchange server in location B and then sent to Internet Cloud and the same route follows for incoming mails too. We have about 45 Mailboxes in Location A and 20 Mailboxes in Location B. The issue is that when this VPN IPsec tunnel is disturbed , mail flow is also disturbed. So , please do provide me a very good solution to overcome this issues.

Is this fine that we can have one exchange mailbox maintained in one location ?
Is this fine that we can configure it as Internet Mail (RPC over HTTP(S) access?

Please do advice me. Hope for your early mail.

    Thanks & Regards
    Sanj

Re: Exchange Mail Flow issue with VPN

You configure those sonicwalls to do an "on demand dial". This means when connection is broken down a traffic want to reach the other site, the connection is reestablished automatic (if it can off course).

Does site A have its own internet connection? Or is everything routed through site B?

Exchange Mail Flow issue with VPN

      Hi,

Yes, Location A has its own internet connection(2MBPS 1:1), Location A Exchange server 2003 standard edition in the ESM in its administrative group, in the routing group, there are two connectors viz., Location B Connector and Internet. Location B connector in the option "Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts" Location B exchange server name is included. Local Bridgeheads (Location A Exchange server). In the internet connector "Use DNS to route to each address space on this connector" option is selected.

In Location B Exchange server also the same above settings in its connectors.

      Please advice.

Please do let me know for any other information.

      Regards
      Sanj
