  • Having Problems setting up RPC over HTTP/S

    Greetings fellow Techies!

I am new to Exchange 2003. I have had no formal training or experience on product and all that I know about it I have read from a book on it or in these forums.

    Here is my scenario:

I have a fully registered domain: ( that is on my primary domain server. I have (2) MX registered records (1) and (2) mail

My Exchange Server 2003 x32 is installed on its own domain controller named: with ( and working correctly on our network.

The DNS is setup correctly between and

I have OWA working inside my firewall and I'm using a SonicWall TZ-170 Enh firewall router.

I got a couple of trial ssl certificates to use for testing connecting from outside the firewall.

To date, I have not been able to get the connection to work outside the firewall. I do have my firewall configured to allow mail in/out from the network. If I connect from outside the firewalll with VPN, it works. I am lacking something in the setup I think. I have followed 2 different RPC over HTTP guides in setting it up but still no cigar.

Anyone have some advice or an idea where I might look to resolve this.

Does OWA work on port 80 (HTTP) from the outside?

Does OWA work on port 443 (HTTPS) from the outside?

Do you have an SSL certificate?

Do you get a browser warning when you connect from outside via HTTPS to OWA?

I cannot use Port 80 and 443 from outside the firewall to access OWA.
I have an SSL Certificate from Thawte and one from Comodo.

I'm pretty sure the problem is in the firewall setup.

Have you open ports 80 & 443 and forwarded them to the Exchange Server?
        1 1 was a racehorse.
        2 2 was 1 2.
