  • OWA Security Certificate

I installed exchnage and i followed the guides on this site for secuiring OWA and i created a certificate and OWA works fine but when OWA is used in IE7 users get this error that there is certificate errors and that the site is not trusted and i been looking around the forum and the internet and the only answers i get is to install the certificate on the client computer under the trusted certificates

but what if the users are traveling and using other computers what can be done so they dont get that error??

you can purchase a cert to prevent this problem from arising.

otherwise, you must import the cert into the trusted root certificates for that PC.

getting a real cert will save you a good deal of headaches in the long run.

i do want to buy the certificates...but convicing my boss..will be a problem..lol i saw the pricing...and they wont like it...and i know i installed them in the trusted root certificates for all the pcs in the domain i did it by domain policy but my question is if the user uses a pc outside the LAN like his house or something like that and he access it that error comes up becuase he has IE7 and he or she just clicks continues and ignores that messege from IE7 does that mean that the connection wont be encrypted???

and why when i do mail.mysite.com it doesnt work but when i do mail.mysite.com/exchange it goes right through and my certificate is for mail.mysite.com not mail.mysite/exchange so that also worrys me do i have to recreate the certificate for mail.mysite.com/exchanage?

        Re: OWA Security Cerficate

you can get a godaddy cert for less than $40.

if you go verisign, then yes... you will have to shell out some duckets. mine was a couple grand!

and yes, iE7 may bitch about the validity of the cert, but it is still encrypted.

no you dont have to change the cert. you can create a forward for the /exchange part so you dont have to type it, but it ultimately doesnt bother the cert.

you can also cut out the domain part during logon if you want. none of these changes will effect the cert.

                    Re: OWA Security Certificate

If you want to test the SSL without any certificate prompts then get a trial certificate from RapidSSL.com: http://www.rapidssl.com/
That will show OWA working with a trusted certificate before you purchase a real certificate.
